Myth of the Garden

the search for love and truth

The Myth of the Garden is the story of a young man's search for meaning.
His adventure begins in San Francisco; Josh Fields, twenty-three, wants to live a deliberate life. He wants to know, through experience, life's essential truths. The promise of the counterculture has crescendoed and nose-dived into chaos. Josh struggles to balance all the new ideas that flood his mind, but a lot of the pieces do not fit.
He and friends respond to the call to adventure and go on a road trip down the California coast; then through India where they meet other expatriates and seekers from Europe. The trip culminates in the Himalayas at the source of the Ganges, yet the story has little to do with Indian philosophy.
It is the story of a young man's awakening to the inner heart of life and the irrepressible longing that drives him to discover a universal truth. He wants to find his place in life and, at the same time, remain true to himself. It is an unrelenting struggle. He is confused by a barrage of new ideas and the disintegration of everything he once believed in. His conflict is not unique, the question has always been asked - what does life ultimately mean? The answer does not always come easy and the awakening can be painful, yet compellingly beautiful.
